FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions Answered

TIME, FREQUENCY AND LENGTH OF SESSIONS

Sessions are 50 minutes long and can take place weekly or fortnightly, depending on your needs and availability. Regular sessions are usually held on the same day and time each week; however, I understand that work and life commitments can sometimes make consistency difficult. Where possible, we can arrange flexible session times that work for both of us.

I offer open-ended counselling, short-term therapy, and single-session support. At the beginning of our work together, we will discuss what feels most appropriate for you and aim to agree on a review point or ending date where suitable. I usually like to review our work together every 6 sessions or so, giving us space to reflect on your progress, goals, and whether the current way of working continues to feel helpful for you.

Therapy can be adapted as your needs change, and we will regularly reflect together on how the work is progressing and when you feel ready to end our sessions.

What is the Initial conversation like?

It takes around 20 minutes for us to get to know each other, and I can answer any questions you may have and see if I am the right therapist for you.

What therapy with me looks like?

                                 First session

In our first session, we will talk about what brings you into counselling also:

  •  Your background

  •  Confidentiality

  •  supervision, reviews, and number of sessions

  • Cancellations and holidays, yours and mine.

People often ask me what my sessions are actually like and whether I mainly sit silently, nodding along. If you are wondering the same, the answer is no. I aim to be honest, reflective, open, and curious in our work together. While I value the importance of giving you space to explore your thoughts and feelings, I also believe therapy is a collaborative relationship where you feel emotionally present with another person.

As a creative person, I like to adapt sessions to the individual and use a range of approaches and tools where helpful. Depending on your needs and preferences, we may use grounding techniques, mindfulness, breathing exercises, psychoeducation, solution-focused exercises, or CBT-informed tools. With younger clients, sessions can also include games, role play, drawing, crafts, feelings cards, sand tray work, videos, or music. These techniques are always optional and used only if they feel comfortable and supportive for you.

At the heart of my work is a client-centred approach. I firmly believe that you are the expert on your own life, even if right now you may feel uncertain, disconnected, or unsure of yourself. My role is to support you in exploring your experiences with compassion, curiosity, and without judgment.
